The Angel Award

Since 1995, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in grants to more than 100 volunteers who perform extraordinary work for Louisiana's at-risk children.

This signature Foundation program is the annual Angel Award®, which is all about increasing awareness of children's needs throughout the state and providing much-needed resources to help address them. The program has honored a total of 1,000-plus nominees, finalists and winners from all walks of life, ranging in age from 17 to 93 and hailing from every corner of our state.

Every year, the Angel Award recognizes eight outstanding volunteers with a $20,000 grant to each honoree's nonprofit charity. The grants are presented at special events in honorees' local communities, and the honorees are celebrated at a special ceremony in the fall.

In 2012, a committee of past recipients of the Angel Award considered 127 nominations from throughout the state before selecting Gaylynne Mack of Baton Rouge, Tiffany Phelps of New Roads, Michael Hackett of Metairie, Mary-Brent Brown of Covington, Ann Keene of Tallulah, Darryl Durham of New Orleans and Tim Falcon of Marrero.
