The Angel Award
For their outstanding volunteer service on behalf of Louisiana's children, seven men and women from across the state have been named the 2011 winners of the Angel Award®, presented by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation. The award includes a $20,000 grant for each honoree's chosen charity.
A committee of past recipients of the Angel Award, now in its 17th year, considered 142 nominations from throughout the state before selecting Janet Andrews of New Orleans, Lloyd Benson II of Baton Rouge, Carter Boyd of Shreveport, Deidra Decay of New Orleans, Staci Raborn of West Monroe, Derrick Tabb of New Orleans and Dana Taylor of Monroe. The winners will be honored at a presentation ceremony Nov. 14 at the LSU Lod Cook Alumni Center in Baton Rouge.

Since 1995, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in grants to more than 100 volunteers who perform extraordinary work for Louisiana's at-risk children.
This signature Foundation program is the annual Angel Award®, which is all about increasing awareness of children's needs throughout the state and providing much-needed resources to help address them. The program has honored a total of 1,000-plus nominees, finalists and winners from all walks of life, ranging in age from 17 to 93 and hailing from every corner of our state.
Every year, the Angel Award recognizes eight outstanding volunteers with a $20,000 grant to each honoree's nonprofit charity. The grants are presented at special events in honorees' local communities, and the honorees are celebrated at a special ceremony in the fall.
