Standard & Poor's National Rating Service
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana (BCBSLA) has 15 consecutive "A" ratings for our financial strength from noted national rating service Standard & Poor's.
A recent S&P report on Blue Cross states, "BCBSLA's competitive position is strong and … is built upon key strengths such as its large market share, high brand awareness, broad provider networks with good discounts, local market expertise and service, and competitive product offerings."
Standard & Poor's is the world's foremost provider of benchmarks for measuring corporate financial health.
URAC Accreditations
BCBSLA and our HMO Louisiana, Inc. subsidiary hold four accreditations from URAC, a Washington, D.C.-based healthcare accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the healthcare industry. Current accreditations (with exclusions noted below) are:
- Case Management* - BCBSLA was one of the first two Blue Cross Plans in the country to earn this accreditation.
- Health Network*± - BCBSLA's PreferredCare PPO network was the first nationally accredited PPO in Louisiana. The company has held Health Network Accreditation continuously since 1998.
- Health Plan*± - Continuously earned by subsidiary HMO Louisiana, Inc., since 2001.
- Health Utilization Management*± - Both the HMO Louisiana, Inc., and the BCBSLA PreferredCare PPO hold this accreditation, first awarded in 2001.
