EDI FAQs

What is EDI?
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the electronic exchange of business information in a common standardized format.

How will filing claims electronically benefit my office?
Electronic filing is the simplest, most cost-effective way to submit your BCBSLA professional and facility claims. Electronic claims submission offers:

  • Less paperwork
  • Shortened claim processing turnaround time (Clean claims are paid in an average of 7 to 14 days.)
  • Reduced administrative expense
  • Reduced number of claims having to be re-filed
  • Reduced errors and rejected claims
  • Increased productivity
  • An audit trail of claim activity
  • Freedom to submit claims 24-hours a day, seven days a week

How can I sign up for Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) payments?
Complete the Electronic Funds Transfer Application [PDF] and return it to BCBSLA You can also call 225.293.5465 or e-mail ilinkblue.providerinfo@bcbsla.com for more information.

What are the benefits of EFT Payments?
With EFT, your payment will be deposited directly into your checking or savings account. This service is FREE to providers who use iLinkBLUE. You will also be able to view your Weekly Provider Payment Register through iLinkBLUE.

Are there other options available for electronic filing, if my medical practice system vendor doesn’t offer an appropriate application?
Yes, Blue Cross has developed relationships with many clearinghouses and electronic billing vendors throughout the country. These companies have systems/services that work in conjunction with, yet separate from, your medical practice system. They will accept claims from multiple payors in a single batch transmitted using one telephone call from your office. When the clearinghouse opens the batch, they forward your claims to the appropriate payors including Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana.
