Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana has received the Local Corporation of the Year Award from the Louisiana Minority Supplier Development Council (LAMSDC).
The award honors the company that has consistently demonstrated commitment to minority business development through effective programs, awarding of contracts and sponsorship of minority purchasing organizations. It was presented to Blue Cross at LAMSDC’s GATEWAY2009 Gala, Louisiana’s Premiere Supplier Diversity Conference, on June 5 in New Orleans. Todd Schexnayder, senior vice president of human resources and chief diversity officer for Blue Cross, accepted the award on behalf of the company.
“We are extremely honored to have received such a prestigious award,” said Schexnayder. “It represents our organization’s committed efforts to providing opportunities for minority business enterprises and strengthening our mutually beneficial relationships with them.”
In addition to receiving the award, Blue Cross was a Gold sponsor for the conference. The company has been an annual sponsor of the event since 2006.
The LAMSDC is a statewide organization that supports minority- and women-owned businesses. Among other activities, it helps corporate members develop and/or improve their minority vendor programs, holds seminars for corporate partners and minority business owners and conducts other activities designed to bring minority vendors and corporate purchasers together. Mary Heywood, director of supply chain management for Blue Cross, serves as treasurer on LAMSDC’s Board of Directors.
