• Strong competitive position: “The company is the largest health insurer in Louisiana based on membership (1.14 million members), with an estimated market share of at least 50% of the privately insured market.”
  
• Very strong capitalization: “Historical surplus growth has been strong.”
  
• Very strong liquidity: “BCBSLA’s very strong liquidity is supported by the makeup of its investment portfolio and the short-tailed nature of its health insurance liabilities.”
  
• Return on revenue: “Operating performance is strong. The company generally targets lower return on revenue than its for-profit competitors.”

URAC Accreditations
BCBSLA and its HMO Louisiana, Inc. subsidiary hold five accreditations from URAC, a Washington, D.C.-based healthcare accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the healthcare industry. For more information, view our press release.

Current accreditations, with exclusions noted below:

• Case Management*- In 2001, BCBSLA was one of the first two Blue Cross Plans in the country to earn this accreditation.
• Health Network*^±- BCBSLA's Preferred Care PPO network was the first nationally accredited PPO in Louisiana. The company has held Health Network Accreditation continuously since 1998.
• Health Plan*^±- Continuously earned by subsidiary HMO Louisiana, Inc. since 2001
• Health Utilization Management*^±- Both HMO Louisiana, Inc. and BCBSLA Preferred Care PPO hold this accreditation, first awarded in 2001.
