Angel Award Nomination Deadline Extended to June 22

$160,000 in grants will benefit Louisiana’s children

There’s still time to nominate a candidate for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Angel Award. The deadline for submission has been extended to June 22, 2007.

Now in its 13th year, the Angel Award is a statewide recognition program that honors outstanding volunteer effort on behalf of Louisiana’s children. The annual event has honored more than 90 “angels” who have made exceptional contributions to better the lives of kids in our state. More than $560,000 has been awarded to charities chosen by finalists and winners of the award in the years since the program’s inception in 1995.

Eight winners will be chosen by a committee of past award winners to receive the 2007 Angel Award.  Each will receive a grant of $20,000 for the charity of his or her choice. A nominee may be recognized for his or her body of work and can also be part of a group’s effort, although only individual volunteers, not groups, can be nominated. The volunteer effort can be aimed at enhancing any aspect of a child’s life, including physical, emotional, creative and spiritual.

Last year’s winners hailed from all over the state, from a veterinarian in Shreveport who was the driving force behind a playground built to include disabled children to the director of Boys Hope Girls Hope in hurricane-ravaged New Orleans.
