Gerry Lane Auto Dealerships Join Blue Cross in Promoting Better Health

Gerry Lane Enterprises, owner of four car dealerships in Baton Rouge, is the first Louisiana company to team up with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana as a Louisiana 2 Step Company. The firm not only signed up many of its employees for the Louisiana 2 Step program – it also furnished Blue Cross with a Saturn Outlook SUV to be the first 2 Step-Mobile.

“We are very excited Gerry Lane has joined our team in the fight against obesity in Louisiana,” said John Maginnis, vice president of corporate communications at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana.  “With the 2 Step-Mobile, we’ll be able to bring the Louisiana 2 Step to more Louisianians than ever before, especially those who do not have access to the internet.”

The Louisiana 2 Step campaign urges Louisiana residents to “Do the 2,” or take two small daily steps toward better health by eating right and moving more. The fun, free and information-packed www.louisiana2step.com website gives visitors a wide variety of interactive tools, including virtual health coaches, to educate, motivate and inspire them to make healthier lifestyle choices.  So far, more than 4,000 Louisiana residents have signed up to “Do the 2.”

“We are pleased to contribute to Blue Cross’ efforts to spread this good health message by providing a Saturn Outlook that will carry the 2 Step program all over our state,” said Eric Lane, vice president of Gerry Lane Enterprises. The company will provide different vehicles from their Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, GMC, Hummer and Saab inventories as needed.

“We are also excited to be able to give our employees a way to get motivated to make healthier lifestyle choices,” Lane continued. In addition to signing up for the Louisiana 2 Step, employees will receive benchmark health screenings and yearly follow-ups sponsored by Blue Cross.

The 2 Step-Mobile will bring the Louisiana 2 Step to festivals and other events throughout the state.  The 2 Step-Mobile and kiosk will be traveling to several upcoming events, including:

  • Cajun French Music and Food Festival, Lake Charles, July 21-22
  • Louisiana Food Service Expo, New Orleans, August 4-6
  • Hot Air Balloon Championship, Baton Rouge, August 10-12
  • Shrimp and Petroleum Festival, Morgan City, August 30-September 3
  • Natchitoches Meat Pie Festival, September 14-16
  • Red River Revel, Shreveport, September 29-October 6
