Smart Bodies is one of our BCBSLA Foundation’s signature programs. With childhood obesity in Louisiana reaching epidemic proportions, Smart Bodies provides a comprehensive, interactive health program with nutrition education and promotes increased physical activity for children grades K-5. Smart Bodies is a joint initiative of Blue Cross and the LSU AgCenter, bringing together the largest domestic health insurer in Louisiana with the state’s largest university system in a private-public partnership working to prevent childhood obesity.
Smart Bodies Components
Louisiana Body Walk – A walkthrough exhibit of the human body that lets children explore the stomach, small intestines, heart, lungs, bones, skin and brain. Learning stations throughout Body Walk teach kids the effects of different foods on each organ.
Organ Wise Guys – Fun characters such as Hardy Heart, Luigi Liver and Madame Muscle help young children understand physiology and healthy behaviors through books, games, dolls and informational videos.
Take 10! Classroom Program – A classroom-based, grade-specific tool created by teachers that combines physical activity with academic lessons. Take 10! activity cards are linked to the content standards and benchmarks established by the Louisiana Department of Education LEAP test.

Smart Bodies earned national recognition in 2007 by being named a Program of Distinction by the National 4-H Headquarters - the first program in Louisiana to earn this designation. Learn more.
