How to Become an Appointed Producer

Step 1: Louisiana License
Must obtain a valid "C" license for the state of Louisiana. Visit http://www.ldi.state.la.us/ for more information. NOTE: We are not accepting appointment requests for individual sales from out-of-state producers.

Step 2: Producer Profile

Complete and submit the online Producer Profile to be considered for producer contracting and appointments. You may be contacted by a Blue Cross regional director before your request is approved.

Step 3: Documentation
You will be sent Producer Agreements and/or Assignments of Commission forms. Complete and sign this paperwork, attach copies of your insurance license and proof of errors and omissions (E&O) coverage and submit all documents to BCBSLA Marketing Services for processing. (See below for E&O details.) Mail documents to:

Step 4: Processing
BCBSLA Marketing Services will process your contracts and send your name to the Louisiana Department of Insurance (DOI) for approval. You can check the status of your appointment by visiting http://www.ldi.state.la.us/. Please note that processing may take up to five weeks.

Step 5: Confirmation
When BCBSLA gets notified by DOI that your appointment has been approved, we will send you via postal mail confirmation information and your assigned producer number(s). Your number is necessary for conducting business with BCBSLA. You must attend a training class in person to be appointed as an individual sales producer.

Errors and Omissions Coverage

  • E&O coverage must include aggregate limits of not less than $1,000,000 and per occurrence limits of not less than $500,000
  • May obtain coverage from any solvent E&O insurer.
  • Appointed BCBSLA producers are eligible to purchase an E&O policy through MGA Insurance Services by contacting them directly at 1.866.389.0022.

Note that BCBSLA does not sell, underwrite or administer this E&O insurance. All questions regarding E&O insurance should be directed to MGA.
