Corporate Charitable Giving Guidelines

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana’s charitable giving focuses on two specific areas:

Health

  • We are committed to improving the health and wellness of Louisianians throughout our state.  Blue Cross is committed to providing financial support to those efforts which can positively affect well-being.
  • Preferred candidates for funding include organizations focused on:
    - Improving public health
    - Reducing barriers to care for the uninsured, or
    - Conducting research to prevent or cure disease 
  • Particular consideration will be given to efforts that address specific populations, including:
    - Rural areas
    - Children
    - Seniors
    - Those who are at risk and underserved

Education

  • By contributing to the educational well-being of citizens throughout the state, Blue Cross believes that we are helping to lay the foundation for informed citizens and education of our state’s youth.
  • Education-related programs eligible for funding are those focused on:
    - Increasing health literacy
    - Training of medical professionals, or 
    - Education of youth (pre-kindergarten through undergraduate degree)

Other Requests
While primary focus is given to efforts that promote learning and healthy communities, Blue Cross will also consider requests that contribute to the overall quality of life in the communities in which we live and work, such as:

  • Capacity-building opportunities* that assist nonprofit organizations to increase the impact of their work
  • Cultural experiences that enrich the lives of our local communities
  • Programs that embody our corporate mission
  • Specific programs and events that may have a positive impact on the lives of Louisianians.

All corporate charitable contributions will promote Blue Cross’ business goals, create positive visibility and demonstrate our corporate social responsibility.

*Capacity-building proposals should improve a nonprofit's effectiveness and performance. Proposals should address important management and governance issues that can be handled with a small amount of money in a short period of time. Projects may address issues including (but not limited to): organizational assessment, board/staff development, program evaluation and information technology.
