Industry honors

BCBSLA has been honored many times with awards and accolades from industry groups.

  • The company earned a 2007 Brand Excellence Award from the national Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association for our achievement in membership retention.
  • The Louisiana Health Care Alliance (LHCA) gave Blue Cross its 2007 Well Workplace Award for large Louisiana employers in recognition of our Healthy You, Healthy Blue employee wellness program. The next year, LHCA honored Blue Cross with a second straight Well Workplace Award for large employers.
  • Blue Cross received a Diversity Achievement Award in 2002 from the Urban League of Greater New Orleans, honoring our company "for its commitment to equal opportunity efforts, diversity and for ensuring fair and equal treatment of all citizens, regardless of race, color, religion or national origin."


  • In 2007, the Governor's Office of Disability Affairs honored Blue Cross with its Employer of the Year award in recognition of our commitment to recruiting and supporting employees with disabilities. Both the company and our manager of supply chain management as an individual have been honored by the Louisiana Minority Business Council.
  • Our executive vice president and chief operating officer, Peggy Scott, has been honored with several industry awards. She received the Society of Louisiana CPAs' Outstanding CPA in Business and Industry Award, was named in 2007 to the American Institute of CPAs' Business and Industry Hall of Fame, and in April 2008 was inducted into the Hall of Distinction at Louisiana State University's E.J. Ourso College of Business. In 2010 she was named by the Baton Rouge Business Report as an Influential Woman in Business. Scott was the first woman to receive the IMA/Robert Half International Financial Executive of the Year award. She also has been selected as an Outstanding Alumnus by Tulane University and was named a 2004 Woman of the Year by New Orleans CityBusiness Magazine.
  • An elementary school in Bossier City that used Blue Cross' Smart Bodies program won the 2007 School Health Award sponsored by the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), the Louisiana Department of Education and the Pennington Biomedical Research Center.
  • Our Lake Charles Regional Office received the 2003 Torch Award from the Southwest Louisiana Better Business Bureau.
  • The company's Code of Business Conduct won the 2002 Best Compliance Practices Award presented by the Health Ethics Trust and the Council on Ethical Organizations.
  • For five years running, BCBSLA was ranked No. 1 out of every Blues plan in the nation for BlueCard® provider satisfaction in a survey conducted annually by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. No other Blue Cross or Blue Shield plan has ever reached this milestone.

Community awards

  • Our 2007 United Way campaign was named Outstanding Campaign by the Capital Area United Way, and our campaign planning committee was named Outstanding Campaign Committee.
  • At its spring 2005 awards ceremony, the Louisiana March of Dimes presented Blue Cross representatives with a plaque thanking the company for our statewide sponsorship. In addition, Blue Cross earned third place honors for collections in the state, and our partner elementary school, Jefferson Terrace, took first place honors for collections in schools. Paula Neck, our community relations coordinator, was recognized for her volunteer service on the WalkAmerica Steering Committee.
  • The Angel Award program has received numerous honors, including a 2004 Award of Excellence from the Southern Public Relations Federation in the Total Public Relations Program category, a 2003 Gold Award in the Public Service category from the Advertising Federation of Greater Baton Rouge and a Merit Award for Total Public Relations Program in the 21st annual Healthcare Advertising Awards.
  • The company's Corporate Communications Department frequently receives awards for advertising and public relations campaigns and materials, including a recent National Silver ADDY Award given by the American Advertising Federation and a Best in Show in the 2010 Healthcare Marketing Awards competition.
