Blue Cross to Attend Louisiana Job Fair for Persons with Disabilities

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana will attend the Louisiana Job Fair for Persons with disAbilities on Wednesday, Oct. 22, as part of its commitment to recruiting and supporting a diverse workforce. The event will take place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Louisiana Technical College.

Blue Cross was named the 2007 Employer of the Year by the Governor's Office of Disability Affairs (GODA). Each year, GODA hosts the Governor's Disability Community Action and Leadership Award Ceremony to honor organizations and individuals who show an outstanding commitment and service to persons with disabilities in Louisiana. In 2007, in the Employer of the Year category, GODA selected Blue Cross because the company "actively recruits, hires and accommodates employees with disabilities."

"Blue Cross has a long history of hiring people with diverse backgrounds," said Todd Schexnayder, senior vice president of Human Resources at Blue Cross. "As part of our commitment to sustaining diversity, we actively recruit disabled employees in a number of ways, and our officers, directors and managers are educated on how to support those covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act."

Blue Cross' workforce includes employees affected by various injuries or disabling diseases that require scheduling or facility accommodations, as well as employees using wheelchairs and hearing- and sight-impaired persons. The company goes above and beyond fulfilling federal and state employment discrimination laws by even adjusting the schedules of disabled employees to allow them to perform their jobs to the best of their abilities.

The Louisiana Job Fair for Persons with disAbilities is coordinated by the Louisiana Business Leadership Network and sponsored by the Medicaid Purchase plan for workers with disabilities through its federal Medicaid Infrastructure Grant. For more information, visit or
