Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana is pleased to announce the launch of the FREE Blue National Doctor and Hospital Finder mobile application. Members and guests can use their iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch mobile devices to easily locate a doctor, hospital or urgent care center nationwide. The app was developed by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, and provides quick access to local healthcare providers when members are traveling or living out of their service area.
The Blue National Doctor and Hospital Finder app allows users to search a national network of doctors, urgent care centers and hospitals by specialty or name. It uses features like GPS navigation search and map links to get directions to the provider’s location. Users can contact the doctor or facility quickly by email, SMS text messaging and through the “click-to-call” feature, which allows them to dial a phone number with one tap on the phone’s screen.
The BlueCard® Program: When Blue Cross members travel, they take their healthcare benefits with them – across the country and around the world. BlueCard® is a national program that allows members to receive healthcare services while traveling or living in another Blue Plan’s service area. The program links participating healthcare providers with the independent Blue Plans across the country and in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide through a single electronic network.
The Blue National Doctor and Hospital Finder app is an easy way for members to find doctors through the national BlueCard program when they are away from home. This means when a member, or anyone using the app, is away from home on vacation or even displaced due to a hurricane, they can access a list of healthcare providers, directions to their offices and their contact information.
This free Blue National Doctor and Hospital Finder app is now available for download on mobile devices and online at the Apple store at www.apple.com. There is no charge from the Association to download the application, but rates from wireless providers may apply. Non-Blue Cross members may use the app to locate doctors as well, but we recommend they call the doctor directly to confirm that he or she participates with their own health plan.
