Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Launches the First Fitness Plan
That Works Like a Provider Network
Healthways™ Fitness Your Way gives Blue Cross members flexibility in fitness chains and locations statewide and across the nation
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana has launched the first fitness plan that crosses locations and chains, together with online and social media support and discounts on health and well-being products for its Louisiana members.
“With the option to visit and attend classes at any participating fitness location, our members can now take a yoga class near work on the weekdays and lift weights near their home on the weekends, and still find in-network options while traveling. It’s an easier and more cost-effective way for our members to maintain a healthy lifestyle,” said Dr. David Carmouche, chief medical officer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana.
For only a $25 enrollment fee and $25 a month per person*, enrollees in Healthways Fitness Your Way gain access to more than 8,000 national and local fitness locations. In addition, the program offers savings on health-related products and discounts on a network of experienced health and well-being specialists, including massage therapists, personal trainers and nutrition counselors. And to support their healthy lifestyle efforts, enrollees get access to a social community and online resources to help track their exercise and nutrition goals, and connect with experts to answer questions or receive advice.
The Louisiana program is part of a larger national network being brought to consumers through Blue365®, a program for members of participating Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies offering health and wellness deals, and Healthways Inc., the global well-being company that designed the program. Healthways Fitness Your Way is now available and being rolled out across Louisiana with an online marketing campaign.
“Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana is a leader in promoting health and wellness, and this program is an exciting first-of-its-kind model for fitness,” added Carmouche. “Our program helps people leap those obstacles to regular exercise by providing flexibility around budget, convenience and variety of activities that fit your unique goals.”
