Blue Physician Recognition

Available on www.bcbsa.com, July 1, 2012

The Blue Physician Recognition (BPR) Program allows more than 99 million Blue members nationwide to know the quality recognitions our Louisiana providers hold.

The BPR Program is designed to reinforce Blue Plans’ commitment to quality by providing more meaningful and consistent information on physician quality improvement and recognition on the Blue National Doctor & Hospital Finder site. The BPR program is complementary to Physician Quality Measurement (PQM) Program.

A BPR indicator will be used to help Blue members identify physicians, groups and/or practices who have “demonstrated their commitment to delivering quality and patient-centered care.”

Blue Plan physicians with certain recognitions will have a BPR indicator displayed next to their name on the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association's Blue National Doctor & Hospital Finder, available at www.bcbsa.com > Find a Doctor or Hospital.

Over time, we envision BPR indicators being used by Blue members to enhance their ownership and understanding of their role in the quality of care received.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana selects which recognitions will qualify a Louisiana primary care physician for the BPR indicator. Currently, our network physicians with at least one of the following recognitions will receive a BPR indicator next to their record on the Association's Blue National Doctor & Hospital directory:

BCBSLA will continue to evaluate other national and local quality programs and their recognized physicians for future inclusion in the BPR program.

* Physicians with a Maintenance of Certification and a specialty other than family practice, general surgery or pediatric surgery must also have completed either an ABIM Performance Improvement Module or an ABMS Patient Safety Improvement Module to be eligible for a BPR indicator.

IMPORTANT: Physicians who have completed either an ABIM Performance Improvement Module or an ABMS Patient Safety Improvement Module, then we must rely on you to self-report completion of these recognitions to Blue Cross in order to receive a BPR indicator. For physicians with one of the select NCQA recognitions, it is important to verify that your BPR recognition information in our directory is exactly what NCQA has on file for you. It is equally important that you allow NCQA to release your data to a third party source as the Association receives the data from NCQA and then submits it to BCBSLA.

Send the BPR Consideration Form along with a copy of the board letter showing proof of your recognition to Network.Administration@bcbsla.com or fax to 225-297-2750.
