Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why isn't Blue Cross offering RxBLUE?

Every year we evaluate our plan benefits and carefully consider our options. This year has been especially challenging with all the demands from healthcare reform and our obligation to our 1.4 million members. This was a very difficult decision.

  • Is my BlueChoice 65 Medicare supplement policy affected by this closure?

No. Your Medicare supplement coverage will remain intact. The RxBLUE closure only affects our Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage.

  • What are my options now?

As an RxBLUE member, you will continue to have your existing Medicare prescription drug coverage through Dec. 31, 2013. You will need to join another Medicare drug plan in order to have prescription drug coverage in 2014.

Here are some important dates to remember:

    • Oct. 15 - Dec. 7, 2013 is the annual enrollment period available to all Medicare beneficiaries to join a new plan so your new coverage goes into effect Jan. 1, 2014.
    • Dec. 8, 2013 - Feb. 28, 2014 is the special enrollment period that gives RxBlue PDP members extra time to evaluate your options.
    • If you enroll in a new plan before Dec. 31, 2013 you will prevent any gap in prescription coverage.
    • If you enroll in a new plan in January, your new coverage goes into effect in February.
    • If you enroll in a new plan in February, your new coverage goes into effect in March.
    • If you don't enroll in a new plan by Feb. 28, 2014, you won't have prescription drug coverage and may be subject to a late enrollment penalty if you sign up later.
