Identity Protection Services

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana offers free identity protection services to all of our eligible customers. We are offering these services in partnership with our vendor, Experian, a national company that specializes in identity protection.

Our identity protection services include fraud alerts with credit monitoring. We also have complete identity repair and restoration services available on demand if you are the victim of identity theft.

While we are offering you these services as something extra you get for being a Blue Cross customer, they apply to all parts of your life, not just your healthcare. So, if your credit card is stolen or there is a data breach at a store where you shop, these services will protect you then, too.

Blue Cross is joining our fellow Blue plans around the country in offering these services. It’s all part of how we help our customers protect every day.

To enroll in identity protection services:

Identity repair is automatically available to you with no enrollment required. If you become a victim of identity theft, contact Experian’s customer care team at 1-888-270-0056. An Experian investigator will act as your guide and advocate from start to finish until the issue is resolved.

Credit monitoring is available as an extra layer of protection that helps you stay informed of your credit activity. If you want these services, you need to sign up. You will not be automatically enrolled.

To sign up for credit monitoring with Experian, please follow the steps below:

NOTE: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana previously offered identity protection services through AllClear ID. Beginning Dec. 2, 2019, customers who want to sign up for or continue their existing services in 2020 will need to enroll with Experian. 

After you sign up the first time, Experian will check in with you each year to make sure you are still eligible for these services. If you are, and wish to continue, you can quickly renew, and your coverage will continue.

What services can I get?
The identity protection services include:

  • Complete Identity Repair and Restoration: You have access to Experian Identity Repair to help protect your identity. If a problem arises, Experian investigators will work with you every step of the way, including contacting creditors and other institutions involved, restoring your identity to its proper condition.
  • Fraud Alerts with Credit Monitoring: This service offers additional layers of protection, including credit monitoring, a $1 million identity theft insurance policy, an annual credit score and credit report, and ChildScan services for minors. In addition, you’ll have the ability to set, renew and remove fraud alerts on your credit file to help protect you from credit fraud.

Do I get this for free as a Blue Cross customer?
As long as you are an active medical plan customer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana or HMO Louisiana, Inc., you can sign up for this and will not need to pay anything for these services.

Do all Blue Cross customers get this service?
Some customers may not be eligible. It depends on what type of coverage you have.

  • If you are on a Blue Cross Medicare plan (Blue Advantage), you are not eligible because we cannot offer this to our Medicare customers right now.
  • If you are on Healthy Blue (Medicaid), you are not eligible because we cannot offer this to our Medicaid customers right now.
  • If you get only ancillary products, like vision and dental, you will not be eligible.
  • If you are a member of the Federal Employee Plan (FEP), you are not eligible for this service.
